How to Choose Your Scent
Buying perfume without smelling it first feels like a gamble. It does not have to be. Here is how to narrow thirteen bottles down to the one that is yours.
1. Start with what you already like
Think about a scent you have enjoyed before — on yourself, or on someone else. Was it sweet, or sharp? Warm, or cool? Did it remind you of flowers, of wood, of spice, of clean laundry? You do not need the vocabulary. That instinct is already most of the answer.
2. Understand the three stages
Every perfume unfolds in three layers, and this is why the first spray is misleading.
- Top notes are what you smell in the first fifteen minutes. Bright, sharp, and gone quickly.
- Heart notes arrive after twenty minutes and hold for a couple of hours. This is the real character of the fragrance.
- Base notes are what remains after that, and what people notice when they hug you. Woods, resins, musk, vanilla.
Never judge a perfume in the first five minutes. Judge it at the thirty-minute mark.
3. Pick a family
Most fragrances fall into a handful of families. Floral is soft and romantic. Woody is dry, grounded and versatile. Oriental or amber is warm, sweet and spiced — the classic South Asian evening scent. Fresh and citrus is clean and light, and holds up best in Karachi heat. Oud is deep, smoky and unmistakable.

4. Match it to your climate and your hours
This matters more in Pakistan than most guides admit. Heat amplifies fragrance; humidity makes it project harder and fade faster. A heavy amber that is perfect for a December wedding in Lahore can be overwhelming at a June lunch in Karachi. As a rough rule: lighter and fresher for daytime and summer, deeper and warmer for evening and winter.
5. Signature or Reserve?
Signature is our everyday line — nine fragrances in clear glass, made to be worn often and without ceremony.
Reserve is heavier, in amber glass — four fragrances made for evenings, occasions and the times you want to be remembered.
6. How to wear it properly
- Spray on pulse points — wrists, the base of the throat, behind the ears. Warm skin carries scent.
- Do not rub your wrists together. It crushes the top notes and shortens the life of the fragrance.
- Apply to moisturised skin. Dry skin loses fragrance fast.
- Two or three sprays is plenty. If you can still smell it strongly on yourself after an hour, everyone else can smell far too much.
